Dojran Lake

Southeastern North Macedonia, North Macedonia

---

Dojran Lake, located in southeastern North Macedonia on the border with Greece, is a shallow tectonic lake known for its warm waters, scenic shoreline, and relaxed resort atmosphere.

Covering about 43 square kilometers, it is shared by both countries and is one of the region’s most important natural landmarks. The lake is famous for its mild climate, sandy-mud beaches, and a unique traditional fishing method that uses reed fences and trained water birds, a practice that has been part of local culture for generations.

It is also recognized for its rich birdlife, reedbeds, and ecological importance, with parts of the lake protected as internationally significant wetland habitats. Popular with holidaymakers seeking a quieter alternative to larger lake destinations, Dojran Lake offers swimming, boating, lakeside dining, and beautiful sunsets. Its combination of natural beauty, cultural traditions, and peaceful surroundings makes it a favorite destination in North Macedonia.
