Dolany (Olomouc District)
Czech Republic, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Dolany is a municipality and village in the Olomouc District of Czechia, first mentioned in historical records in 1235.
It was originally divided into two parts and sold to Beneš of Wildenberk in the 14th century, becoming part of the Bouzov estate. In 1379, Dolany was acquired by the newly established Carthusian monastery in Tržek, which built the Vallis Josaphat monastery in Dolany. During the Hussite Wars in 1425, the monastery was destroyed, leading the Carthusians to relocate to Olomouc.
In 1619, the properties owned by the Carthusians were confiscated, and Dolany came under the control of the Liechtenstein family until the establishment of a sovereign municipality in 1850. The village spans an area of 23.8 square kilometers and had a population of around 2,961 as of 2025, living in a region with historical and cultural ties stretching back to medieval Moravia.
