Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology, located in Bor, Jonglei State, South Sudan, was established in 2007 as the John Garang Institute of Science and Technology and elevated to university status in 2010.

Named after the late Dr. John Garang de Mabior, the founding leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) and a key figure in South Sudan's independence, the university was created to develop the country’s intellectual, economic, and social standards through education and research.

It started in collaboration with the Free International University of Moldova, awarding degrees under European standards before being nationalized. The university currently offers multiple colleges including Agriculture, Education, Environmental Sciences, Management Sciences, Sciences and Technology, among others.

It serves as an important institution for higher learning and development, fostering academic excellence and contributing to peacebuilding and cultural development in South Sudan.
