Shambe National Park
Lakes State (near the Nile), South Sudan
Shambe National Park in South Sudan, located in Lakes State near the western bank of the White Nile, covers about 620 square kilometers and was established in 1985.
The park features a mix of floodplains, grasslands, riverine forests, and wetlands shaped by seasonal flooding that nourishes the fertile plains. It is home to a rich diversity of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, hippos, lions, giraffes, antelopes such as tiang and waterbuck, and numerous bird species like saddle-billed storks and African fish eagles.
The wetlands and floodplains provide critical habitat for migratory birds and aquatic species, making it a key destination for birdwatching.
