Dunboy Castle is a ruined 15th century fortress on the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland, near the town of Castletownbere. Originally built by the O'Sullivan Beare clan to protect Berehaven Harbour, it played an important role in controlling local fishing and trade routes. The castle is best known for the Siege of Dunboy in 1602 during the Nine Years' War, when English forces captured and largely destroyed it after a fierce battle. The defeat marked the decline of the O'Sullivan Beare clan's power in the region. Today, the castle remains a historic ruin open to visitors, offering a glimpse into Ireland's medieval past and dramatic coastal history.
