Dunkerron Castle is a ruined medieval tower house located near Kenmare in County Kerry, overlooking Kenmare Bay. Originally built as a Norman stronghold in the 13th century, it later became the seat of the powerful O'Sullivan Mór family, one of the most influential Gaelic dynasties in southwest Ireland. The four-storey castle was expanded in the late 16th century, when additional buildings and an enclosed court were added. It remained an important O'Sullivan residence until the mid-17th century, when the family's lands were confiscated following the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland and transferred to Sir William Petty. Today, Dunkerron Castle survives as an atmospheric ruin surrounded by the scenic landscapes of County Kerry. Despite centuries of decay, its remaining walls and historic setting continue to reflect its former importance and its strong association with the O'Sullivan Mór clan.
