Dysert Castle, more commonly known as Dysert O'Dea Castle, is a restored 15th-century tower house located near Corofin in County Clare, Ireland. It was built between 1470 and 1490 by Diarmaid O'Dea, a local Gaelic chieftain, and served as the stronghold of the O'Dea clan. The castle is closely linked to the historic Battle of Dysert O'Dea of 1318, which helped limit Anglo-Norman influence in the region for centuries. Although the castle suffered significant damage during the Cromwellian period in the 17th century, it was carefully restored in the 1970s and reopened as a heritage and archaeology center. Today, visitors can explore the castle’s rooms, exhibitions, and rooftop walkway, as well as nearby historic features such as Dysert Church, St. Tola’s High Cross, and an archaeological trail containing numerous ancient monuments. The site is considered one of County Clare’s most important medieval and archaeological attractions.
