Edsbergs Castle
Sollentuna, Sweden, Sweden
Edsbergs Castle, located by Edsviken Bay in Sollentuna Municipality north of Stockholm, Sweden, began as a wooden estate built around 1630 for Henrik Olofsson and was soon acquired by Count Gabriel Bengtsson Oxenstierna, who transformed it into a manor visited by Queen Christina in 1645 and later by King Charles XI and Queen Dowager Hedvig Eleonora in 1670.
In 1760, Thure Gustaf Rudbeck replaced the wooden structure with the current stone building, likely designed by architect Carl Wijnblad in simplified French Rococo style featuring a plastered façade, two floors, and two wings, owned by the Rudbeck family for about 200 years until Sollentuna Municipality took over in 1959.
Today, following renovations in the 1990s and 2006, it serves as the cultural heart of Sollentuna, housing Edsbergs Musikinstitut - a chamber music division of the Royal College of Music alongside Edsvik Konsthall art gallery, event spaces, and public access on Wednesdays and Sundays.
