Feartagar Castle, also known as Jennings Castle, is a well-preserved medieval tower house located in Castlegrove East near Kilconly in County Galway, Ireland. Built by the de Burgo (Burke) family between the 15th and 17th centuries, it served as a fortified residence during a period of frequent conflict in the region. The castle stands on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside and is recognized as a National Monument of Ireland. Its impressive design includes multiple storeys, corner bartizans (small defensive turrets), a vaulted floor, stone staircases, and defensive features such as a machicolation above the entrance. After the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland in 1651, the Burke family lost possession of the castle, and it later passed to the Blake family of Tuam. Today, Feartagar Castle remains an important example of late medieval Irish tower-house architecture and is a notable historic landmark in County Galway.
