FES Cuautitlán Botanical Garden in San Mateo Ixtacalco near Mexico City, founded in 1959, is managed by the Institute of Biological Sciences of UNAM and is one of Mexico’s oldest and most important botanical gardens.

Covering about 12.7 hectares, the garden maintains a wide variety of living plants representative of the country’s diverse flora, including more than 1,200 Mexican species. It serves as a center for botanical research, education, and conservation, focusing on protecting native plants and supporting scientific study. The garden is notable for its extensive collections of agaves, cacti, succulents, and over 5,500 living plants.

It also features remarkable specimens such as an "elephant foot" plant that is centuries old, symbolizing its rich heritage. The garden’s unique volcanic landscape adds to its ecological and educational value, making it an important hub for preserving Mexico’s botanical heritage.
