Fiholm Castle
Sweden, Sweden
Fiholm Castle, situated about 20 kilometers west of Eskilstuna in Södermanland County, Sweden, originated as an estate first mentioned in 1275 and later donated to the Eskilstuna monastery in 1404.
Powerful statesman Axel Oxenstierna inherited it in 1617 and commissioned its construction as a Renaissance fortress in 1640, completed by 1642 in French-Dutch style under a renowned architect, though only two wings of the planned larger manor survive today.
Privately owned and featuring a café and shop in a historic barn, the site showcases European-influenced stonework and courtyards, welcoming visitors to explore its unfinished yet balanced Renaissance design.
