Fortaleza de Valença is a monumental 17th-18th century star fort in Valença do Minho, Portugal, strategically perched on hills overlooking the Minho River border with Spain, blending Gothic medieval walls from the 13th century under King Afonso III with advanced Vauban-inspired bastions, ravelins, and moats completed by engineers like Miguel de l'Escole and Manuel Pinto de Vilalobos.

Divided into the Recinto Magistral medieval core and the southern Coroada military zone linked by the Portas do Meio bridge, it features four grand gates including the ornate Porta do Sol, successfully repelling Spanish assaults in the Portuguese Restoration War, Napoleonic invasions, and Liberal Wars through its layered defenses and panoramic river views.

Today, the well-preserved fortress encircles charming cobbled streets with Manueline houses, historic churches, and a Roman milestone, serving as a vibrant pedestrian zone for shopping, dining, and Camino de Santiago pilgrims while symbolizing Portugal's northern frontier resilience.
