Fortress Neutzikon, near the village of Mezek in southeastern Bulgaria, is a well-preserved medieval Byzantine stronghold built in the late 11th or early 12th century.
It was a border fortress that guarded the area between the Maritsa and Arda rivers and helped defend the region near today’s Bulgarian, Greek, and Turkish borders. The ruins still show its strong walls and towers, and the site is known for its strategic location and wide views over the surrounding hills.
