Fuerte de Almeyda
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, Spain
Fuerte de Almeyda is a 19th-century coastal fort in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, constructed between 1854 and 1884 following the failed 1797 British attack led by Admiral Horatio Nelson.
Designed by engineer colonel Clavijo y Plo in the Vauban style, its semicircular plan features a main facade with two floors, casemates, barracks, and artillery batteries positioned strategically between the Almeida ravine and the sea to defend against naval threats.
Though obsolete by completion due to advancing artillery, it now houses the Canary Islands Military History Museum, showcasing the island's defense evolution amid its historic stone walls.
