Glenquin Castle is a well-preserved medieval tower house located near Killeedy in County Limerick. Built around 1462 by the O'Hallinan family on the site of an older fortification, it stands on elevated ground and is considered one of the finest surviving tower houses in the region. The castle played a role in several important historical events, changing hands between Gaelic Irish families, the Fitzgerald Earls of Desmond, and later English landowners during and after the Desmond Rebellions. It was partially damaged in the 16th century but underwent major restoration work in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, the six-storey limestone tower remains a protected National Monument. Its defensive features, including a murder hole, barrel-vaulted rooms, battlements, and archer positions, offer visitors a vivid glimpse into medieval life and the turbulent history of southwest Ireland.
