Glin Castle is a historic country house in the village of Glin, County Limerick, overlooking the River Shannon. The estate has been associated with the FitzGerald family for more than 700 years and was the traditional seat of the Knights of Glin, a hereditary branch of the powerful FitzGerald dynasty. The original medieval castle was built in the 14th century and played a role in several major conflicts, including the Desmond Rebellions and later struggles during English rule in Ireland. The present Georgian-style mansion was constructed in the late 18th century to replace the earlier fortress, with additional neoclassical features added over time. Today, Glin Castle is renowned for its elegant architecture, beautiful gardens, and rich family history. Although no longer the seat of a hereditary knight, it remains in the FitzGerald family and is considered one of Ireland’s most distinguished historic houses.
