Gornja Banjica, also known as Gorna Banjica, is a village in the Gostivar Municipality within North Macedonia's Polog region, located at approximately 41°47′N 20°54′E with an elevation around 530 meters and a 2002 census population of 4,423 residents. Known in Albanian as Banjicë e Epërme and Turkish as Yukarı Banisa, it features a mixed demographic historically dominated by Albanians and Turks, with Ottoman defters from 1467-68 recording 17 houses and inhabitants bearing Slavic-Albanian names like Nikolla Arbanas. Post-WWII Yugoslav policies promoted Turkification through Turkish schools from 1948-1959, reflected in censuses showing shifts such as 754 Albanians and 240 Turks in 1953, rising to 1,118 Turks by 1981 amid a total of 1,611. Today it remains a vibrant rural community near Gostivar city.
