Gran Castillo de Pedraza
Pedraza, Segovia, Spain, Spain
Gran Castillo de Pedraza is a 13th-century Romanesque fortress dominating the medieval village of Pedraza de la Sierra in Segovia province, Spain, with a polygonal layout featuring a double enclosure, square turrets, and an artificial rock-cut moat integrated into the town's ancient walls.
Once home to noble families like the Herrera and Velascos (Dukes of Frías), it held historical prisoners including the sons of France's Francis I, endured sieges and decay, then was rescued in 1925 by painter Ignacio Zuloaga as his studio and residence.
Now privately owned and partially restored, it houses Zuloaga's museum with panoramic views, blending military heritage and artistic legacy amid the perfectly preserved walled settlement.
