Grönsöö Castle
Strandby, Sweden, Sweden
Grönsöö Castle, situated near Strandby in Uppsala County, Sweden, was constructed between 1607 and 1611 by Chancellor Johan Skytte, tutor to future King Gustavus Adolphus, as a Renaissance-style manor of grey stone and brick inspired by French models, complete with corner towers and preserved 17th-century interiors.
The estate evolved through noble ownerships including Skytte, Falkenberg, and von Schultzenheim families, gaining Neoclassical interiors and an iconic Chinese pavilion in the 18th century amid expansive gardens showcasing five periods of Swedish horticultural history, from Renaissance orchards to modern designs.
Still home to the von Ehrenheim family since 1820, the 720-hectare property operates as a living heritage site with forestry, agriculture, guided tours, exhibitions, and public access to its cultural treasures.
