Helfenburg is a well-preserved medieval castle ruin located in a forested area a few kilometers east of Úštěk in northern Czechia.

Built in the 14th century on a sandstone ridge, it served as an important fortified residence and later came under the ownership of Prague archbishops, who used it as an administrative and defensive center. The castle changed hands several times during its history and played a role in the political and military conflicts of medieval Bohemia.

After losing its strategic importance, it was gradually abandoned, and by the early 17th century it had fallen into ruin. Imperial troops later plundered and burned the site. Today, visitors can explore impressive remains of the fortress, including its massive keep, fortified walls, gate structures, and a deep well. 

Restoration and conservation efforts have helped preserve the ruins while maintaining their historic character. Helfenburg is a popular destination for hikers, photographers, and history enthusiasts, offering a striking medieval atmosphere and scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
