The village was likely founded by Slavs at the end of the 12th century, with its first written mention dating back to around 1305. Historically part of the Duchy of Teschen, it experienced religious shifts during the Reformation and has seen various noble ownerships, including the Beess family, who built a Baroque castle later rebuilt in Empire style in the 19th century.
The population includes a significant Polish minority, and the village features landmarks such as Hnojník Castle and the Empire-style Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The area is connected by road and rail, retaining cultural ties through bilingual schools and historic sites.
