Holštejn Castle
Czech Republic, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Holštejn Castle is a medieval rock castle ruin in the Moravian Karst near the village of Holštejn in Czechia.
It was built in the late 13th century on a steep limestone outcrop, and it once had a dungeon cave beneath it called Hladomorna, which was used in the Middle Ages. Today, only ruins remain, but the site is freely accessible and popular with hikers because of its dramatic setting and the nearby cave. It is a good example of a castle built directly into natural rock for defense.
