It lies in the Cieszyn Silesia area near the Lučina River, about 7 to 10 km east or northeast of Frýdek-Místek, and is close to the Žermanice Reservoir, which gives it a quiet, recreational character. The village dates back to the early 14th century, with historical references around 1305, and became a separate municipality in 1864. It is known for its traditional Silesian dispersed settlement pattern and for the Baroque Church of St. James, one of its main landmarks.
