Hrad Angerbach

Hrad Angerbach is the site of a small medieval castle located on a wooded ridge near Kožlany in western Czechia.

It was built around the middle of the 13th century, likely during the reign of King Wenceslas I, and probably served as a hunting lodge and administrative outpost connected to the nearby royal castle of Týřov. Unlike many stone castles, Angerbach was a transitional type of fortress that relied heavily on earthworks, timber structures, and simple fortifications.

Archaeological evidence suggests that it existed for only a relatively short time and was abandoned by the first half of the 14th century. Today, only subtle remains such as ditches, embankments, and small fragments of masonry can be seen. The site is protected as a cultural monument and is of particular interest to historians because it provides insight into the early development of medieval castles in Bohemia.
