Hrad Střekov, a Gothic castle perched on a steep cliff above the Elbe River in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, was built in 1316 by King John of Luxembourg. It served as a strategic fortress to protect an important trade route and collect tolls from passing ships.

The castle’s distinctive architecture features two connected sections with semi-circular bastions, a design that was innovative for its time in Bohemia. Its imposing walls and towers have witnessed many historical battles, including damage during the Thirty Years' War.

The castle later inspired artists and composers such as Richard Wagner, who composed the opera "Tannhäuser" here. After centuries of conflict and partial ruin, Hrad Střekov remains a popular tourist destination known for its well-preserved ruins, panoramic views, and cultural exhibitions.
