Ibrahim Palace
Hofuf, Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia
Ibrahim Palace, also known as Qasr Ibrahim, is a historic fort located in the Al-Qoot district of Hofuf in the Al-Ahsa region of Saudi Arabia.
Built in 1556 during the Ottoman era by the Ottoman governor Ali Ibn Ahmed Ibn Lawand Al-Burayki, it served as the main military garrison and administrative center for the region. The palace covers about 16,500 square meters and combines Islamic and military architectural styles, characterized by thick mudbrick walls, towers, and domes.
At its heart lies the Al-Quba Mosque, notable for its single dome that covers the entire structure, an unusual feature in Saudi architecture. The palace was renovated in 1801 by the Saudi governor Ibrahim Ibn Afaisan, after whom it is named. Over time, the palace became symbolic of Al-Ahsa's wealth and strategic importance, particularly under Ottoman rule and later during King Abdul-Aziz’s reign when it was further fortified.
Today, Ibrahim Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a major tourist attraction showcasing rich Islamic history and architecture in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
