Verified Islas de Gigantes

Philippines , Philippines

Islas de Gigantes, also known as the Gigantes Islands, is a stunning island chain in Carles, Iloilo province, Philippines, located in the Visayan Sea roughly 18 kilometers northeast of Panay Island.

The name means "Giant Islands" in Spanish, originating from local legends about giant human bones discovered in one of the islands' caves. The chain consists of about ten islands, with two main islands—Gigantes Norte (the more developed island with fishing communities and homestays) and Gigantes Sur (known for secluded beaches and major attractions)—plus smaller islets like Cabugao Gamay, Antonia, Bantigue, and Gigantillo.

The islands are famous for their crystal-clear turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, limestone cliffs, 73 caves, unique rock formations, diverse marine life, and abundant fresh seafood, especially scallops that visitors can pick directly from the seabed. Top attractions include Cabugao Gamay Island (the iconic "selfie island" with a sandbar and viewpoint), Tangke Saltwater Lagoon (a hidden natural pool surrounded by towering cliffs), Bantigue Sandbar (a long shifting sandbar), Antonia Beach (pristine white sand perfect for snorkeling), and the historic North Gigantes Island Lighthouse from 1895.
