Verified Italian Court

Kutná Hora, Czech Republic (Czechia)

The Italian Court, known as Vlašský dvůr, is a historic palace in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic, originally built in the late 13th century as a fortified residence and part of the town’s defenses.

It became the royal mint under King Wenceslas II in 1300, centralizing the production of the famous Prague groschen coin and solidifying Kutná Hora’s economic importance due to its rich silver mines. The palace complex was extensively rebuilt in the 14th century by architect Peter Parler, featuring Gothic architectural elements and serving as a royal residence with private chambers, a chapel, and grand halls.

Many important historical events took place here, including royal decrees and elections of Bohemian kings. Although the mint ceased operation in the 18th century after a damaging fire, the Italian Court was restored in the 19th century with neo-Gothic additions that preserved its grandeur.

Today, it is a national cultural monument where visitors can explore its medieval architecture, royal chapel, minting workshops, and rich royal history that reflects Kutná Hora’s past wealth and political significance.
