Izvorul Bigar
Poneasca, Romania, Romania
Izvorul Bigăr, near the village of Poneasca in Caraș‑Severin County, Romania, is a protected natural reserve centered on a unique tufa‑limestone waterfall known as Cascada Bigăr or Cascada Coronini.
The spring is fed by an underground river that flows through Bigăr Cave in the Anina Mountains, then travels about 200 meters before spilling over a rocky sill into the Minis River, where the calcareous water deposits tufa and builds a soft, moss‑covered cascade. This small but spectacular waterfall is often described as one of the most beautiful and distinctive in Romania, admired for its delicate, fan‑like shape and lush green surroundings along the Minis Gorge within the Cheile Nerei–Beușnița National Park.
The site has become a popular tourist attraction, especially along the DN57B road between Anina and Bozovici, and lies close to the symbolic 45th parallel north where the latitude line crosses the country.
