Jardín Botánico Regional de Cadereyta
Mexico, Mexico
The Jardín Botánico Regional de Cadereyta, officially named "Ing. Manuel González de Cosío," is a scientific and educational institution located in Cadereyta de Montes, Querétaro, Mexico, founded on April 25, 1991, by the regional government of Querétaro, and is one of the 20 most important botanical gardens in Mexico.
The garden spans 10 hectares and is dedicated to the study, conservation, and sustainable use of Mexican flora, particularly the species of the Querétaro-Hidalgo semidesert ecosystem, which is an extremely arid region covering more than 20 percent of the state. It features five formal botanical collections: the Semidesert, Cactaceae of Querétaro, Vegetation of the Querétaro Valley, the genus Mammillaria in Mexico, and Agaves of Querétaro, with a primary focus on cacti and agave succulents native to the region, including many endemic species and some in danger of extinction.
The garden ensures the survival of threatened species through research, in-situ conservation of wild populations, and ex-situ propagation of plants in captivity, and it is especially renowned for its exceptional variety of cactaceae that will fascinate botany enthusiasts.
