Jílovský zámek in Jílové, Czech Republic, was originally built as a water castle around 1370, constructed on the site of a former fortress with a surrounding moat.

It was transformed into a Renaissance chateau in the 16th century while still retaining its water defenses, which were gradually removed by the 20th century. The castle went through several owners, including the noble Bünau family who expanded and rebuilt it, and later the Thun-Hohenstein family who made significant 20th-century renovations that turned it into a modern family residence with a romantic park and terraced gardens.

Historically, it also housed wool processing industries in the 19th century. 

Today, the castle serves as a cultural and community center, with public access to its restored interiors and surrounding park. Its architecture and landscaping illustrate a mix of medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and modern influences, reflecting its long and varied history.​
