Kebun Raya Liwa
Indonesia, Indonesia
Kebun Raya Liwa is Indonesia's first and only botanical garden on Sumatra Island, located in Way Mengaku, Balik Bukit District, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, at an elevation of 800–900 meters above sea level.
The garden spans 86 hectares within the Southern Bukit Barisan National Park (TNBBS) conservation area and houses 6,275 plant specimens, including rare ornamental plants, medicinal plants, fruit trees, and epiphytes, making it a premier center for tropical rainforest flora conservation.
Development began in 2007–2008 through cooperation between the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI, now BRIN), Kebun Raya Bogor's Plant Conservation Center, and the Department of Public Works, and it was officially inaugurated on December 5, 2017, by then West Lampung Bupati Mukhlis Basri. The garden serves multiple purposes as a flora conservation center, tourist destination, educational site, research location, and environmental service provider, while also promoting West Lampung's identity as a "Conservation County" known as Bumi Beguai Jejama Sai Betik.
Visitors enjoy cool, misty air with mountain views, themed gardens featuring Indonesian ornamental plants, fruit and medicinal plant collections, photo spots with natural backdrops, and facilities including playgrounds, parking areas, toilets, prayer rooms, gazebos, ponds, and coffee stalls. The garden is open Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. WIB, with Monday and Friday closed, and admission costs Rp5,000 on weekdays and Rp10,000 per person on weekends, or Rp5,000 for adults and Rp3,000 for children under 12 according to local regulation.
