Kilcaskan Castle, also known as Kilcascan Castle, is a historic castellated country house near Ballineen in County Cork, Ireland. Although it resembles a medieval fortress with its towers and battlements, the building was largely constructed in the early 19th century as the residence of the Daunt family, an influential local landowning family. The castle is particularly known for its Gothic Revival architecture, featuring distinctive crenellated towers, stone detailing, and elegant period interiors. It also holds a place in Irish history as the site associated with what is often described as the last recorded duel fought in Ireland, which took place in 1826 and resulted in the death of Joseph Daunt. After changing ownership in 1989, the property has undergone extensive restoration and remains a notable landmark in West Cork. Today, it is a privately owned historic residence that occasionally opens to visitors, offering a glimpse into Ireland’s architectural and social heritage.
