Kilteel Castle is a historic medieval castle located in the village of Kilteel in County Kildare, Ireland, near the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. The site was originally associated with a monastic settlement and later became a stronghold of the Knights Hospitallers, who established themselves there in the early 13th century. The most prominent surviving structure is a well-preserved 15th-century five-storey tower house, featuring thick stone walls, a spiral staircase tower, and defensive elements that reflect its role in protecting the border of the English-controlled Pale during a turbulent period of Irish history. Over the centuries, the castle changed ownership several times and was involved in regional conflicts before eventually becoming a designated National Monument. Today, Kilteel Castle stands as an impressive example of late medieval Irish architecture and an important reminder of the area's religious and military past.
