The Kokino Megalithic Observatory, located in Staro Nagoričane Municipality in North Macedonia, is a remarkable Bronze Age archaeological site situated on the volcanic hill of Tatićev Kamen.

Dating back to around the 19th century BC, it is one of the oldest known prehistoric sites in the region and is believed to have been used for both astronomical observations and religious ceremonies. The site features stone markers, carved platforms, and several stone “thrones” that align with the rising positions of the Sun and Moon during key events such as the solstices and equinoxes.

These features suggest that ancient inhabitants used Kokino to track celestial movements and mark important dates in their calendar. Overlooking the surrounding countryside, Kokino combines impressive natural scenery with archaeological significance. It has been proposed for inclusion on the UNESCO Tentative List and is considered one of North Macedonia’s most important prehistoric landmarks, attracting visitors interested in ancient astronomy, history, and archaeology.
