Keraton Yogyakarta, officially known as Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, is the beating heart of Javanese culture and royal tradition in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Built in 1755 by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I following the Giyanti Agreement, the palace is both a royal residence and a living museum that embodies the spiritual, political, and artistic soul of the Yogyakarta Sultanate.

The complex is a masterpiece of traditional Javanese architecture, meticulously aligned along a sacred north-south axis between Mount Merapi and the Indian Ocean—symbolizing the cosmic balance between the divine and the earthly. Its pavilions, courtyards, and ceremonial halls are adorned with intricate carvings, gilded columns, and symbolic motifs that reflect centuries of philosophical and spiritual meaning.

Still home to the reigning Sultan and his family, the Keraton is also a vibrant cultural hub.
