Kynžvart Castle, near Lázně Kynžvart in Czechia, began as a Renaissance chateau built between 1585 and 1597 by the Lords of Cedvice.

After the Battle of White Mountain, it was confiscated and acquired by the Metternich family around 1630. Between 1682 and 1691, the castle was rebuilt into a Baroque residence by Count Philipp Emmerich von Metternich, giving it the appearance of an aristocratic country home.

In the 19th century, Austrian Chancellor Klemens Wenzel von Metternich remodeled the castle extensively in the neoclassical Viennese style with architect Pietro Nobile’s help, adding empire style features and redesigning the interiors and park. The castle served as a residence and diplomatic venue, reflecting its importance in European history. Today, its large park and elegant architecture make it a significant cultural monument and tourist attraction.

The castle’s layered architectural styles and rich history symbolize its evolving role from a Renaissance fortress to a stylish neoclassical mansion.
