Verified Lamberk

Březník, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Lamberk is the ruin of a medieval castle located in a scenic bend of the Oslava River about 2 kilometers southwest of the village of Březník in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic.

The castle was founded around 1370 by Jaroslav of Knínice and stood on a long, rocky ridge overlooking the river valley. The site is most closely associated with Jan Sokol of Lamberk, a renowned medieval warrior and military leader who became one of the castle’s most famous owners. During the turbulent years following the Hussite Wars, the castle declined and was likely destroyed in the mid-15th century.

By 1459 it was already recorded as abandoned. Today, only fragments of walls, earthworks, and defensive ditches remain, but the ruins retain a strong historical atmosphere. Set amid forests and dramatic river scenery, Lamberk is a popular destination for hikers and visitors interested in medieval history and nature.
