Verified Lido, Belgrade

Serbia, Serbia

Lido is a small, peaceful sandy beach and non-residential neighborhood on the northern tip of Great War Island in the Danube River, located in Belgrade’s Zemun municipality, Serbia.

Named after the Lido in Venice, it has been used as a beach by Zemun residents since before World War I and was first arranged after the war, eventually becoming known for its neatness comparable to Austrian beaches of that era. The entire Great War Island is legally protected from urbanization, making Lido a rare natural oasis with lush greenery and crystal-clear river waters, offering a tranquil escape from Belgrade’s city noise.

It features a small pointed sandy shoreline perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and leisurely walks, along with several beach bars and restaurants where visitors can enjoy drinks and Serbian cuisine. Accessible by a 375-meter-long pontoon bridge laid each summer from July to September by the Serbian Armed Forces (connecting Zemunski Kej to the beach), it can also be reached by boat from Zemun or central Belgrade’s Dorćol.

Lido remains the most popular summer resort for Zemun citizens, though it never reached the popularity of Belgrade’s Ada Ciganlija beach, and it offers a quiet alternative for those seeking a simpler, more natural river beach experience.
