Loarre, Spain, Spain
Loarre Castle is a remarkably preserved 11th-12th century Romanesque fortress perched on a hilltop in Loarre, Huesca province, Aragon, Spain, overlooking vast plains toward the Pyrenees foothills.
Commissioned around 1020 by King Sancho III of Pamplona on Roman ruins and expanded by Sancho Ramírez of Aragon, it features an irregular layout with double defensive walls, multiple cylindrical towers including the prominent five-story Torre del Homenaje keep and Torre de la Reina with twin-arched windows, plus an internal Romanesque church of Santa María de Valverde showcasing barrel vaults and carved capitals.
