Lombard Castle Ruins, also known as Lombard’s Castle, is a historic fortified townhouse in the center of Buttevant, County Cork, Ireland. Built in the late 16th or early 17th century, it was associated with the wealthy Lombard family, merchants of Norman origin who played an important role in the town’s commercial life. Today, only part of the original structure survives, including a small two-storey tower and sections of adjoining walls. Although much of the castle has been lost over the centuries, its remaining stonework still displays features typical of late medieval Irish architecture. The building later served as a school during the 18th and early 19th centuries before being partially restored in the late 1800s. Located on Buttevant’s Main Street, the ruins provide a fascinating glimpse into the town’s rich medieval and mercantile past and are a notable landmark for visitors exploring the area.
