Maltesholm Slott
Sweden, Sweden
Maltesholm Slott, located near Tollarp in Kristianstad Municipality, Scania, southern Sweden, originated in the Middle Ages under the Brahe family during Danish rule, with the current Renaissance castle built between 1635 and 1638 by high constable Malte Juel featuring brick construction, three floors, a staircase tower, crow-stepped gables, and a surrounding moat.
Expanded by the wealthy Ramel family in the 18th century, it received its neoclassical palace appearance in 1780 under Hans Ramel, who also created a 1.3-kilometer stone road through the landscape, while retaining Renaissance remnants like the moat and a 1680 inscription.
The estate boasts a Renaissance garden with a 200-year-old 35-meter douglas fir and an 18th-century orangery where Sweden's first bananas were grown, remaining privately owned and open for park visits.
