Verified Manor House Čechy Pod Kosířem

Čechy pod Kosířem, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Manor House Čechy Pod Kosířem in Czechia stands on the site of a Gothic water fortress from the 14th century, which was replaced by a Renaissance fortress in the 16th century.

The castle was rebuilt into a four-winged Baroque chateau by the Lichtenstein family in the early 18th century and later came into the possession of the Silva Tarouca family in 1768, who remodeled the chateau in a classicist style and transformed the park into a picturesque English garden.

The famous Czech painter Josef Mánes frequently visited the chateau from 1849 to 1871, creating over a hundred works inspired by the surroundings, while also contributing to architectural details such as the chateau’s orangery and chapel decoration. After being expropriated in 1949, the chateau served as a children’s home until 2005.

Since 2008, the Olomouc Region has owned and managed the estate, leading extensive renovations before reopening it as a museum and cultural venue in 2016. The chateau now houses the largest collection of Mánes’ paintings and exhibitions celebrating the local history and heritage, offering visitors a rich blend of art, architecture, and landscaped beauty.
