McSwyne's Castle, also known as Rahan Castle or Castle Murray, is a ruined 15th century fortress located on St. John's Point near Dunkineely in County Donegal, Ireland. It was originally built by the McSwyne (Mac Suibhne) family, a clan of Scottish-origin galloglass warriors who served local Irish chieftains. Perched on a rocky coastal site overlooking the Atlantic, the castle was strategically positioned for defense and offered commanding views of the surrounding coastline. After the Plantation of Ulster, ownership passed from the McSwynes to Scottish settlers, leading to a series of inheritance disputes and eventual abandonment. Today, only fragments of the structure remain, including sections of walls and other ruined features, but the site is still valued for its historical significance and dramatic seaside setting. Visitors are drawn by both its connection to Donegal's medieval past and the scenic views across St. John's Point and nearby bays.
