Monreal De Ariza Castle
Monreal de Ariza, Spain, Spain
The Monreal de Ariza Castle, also called Mont Regal Castle, is a medieval ruin atop a hill overlooking the town of Monreal de Ariza in Zaragoza province, Aragon, Spain.
Founded in 1128 by Alfonso I el Batallador to secure Aragon's border against the Almoravids and Castile, it later fell under Ariza's lordship and saw reforms during the War of the Two Pedros, featuring long tapial walls on a masonry base, multiple enclosures at varying heights, and a dominant pentagonal ashlar tower.
Now dilapidated with remnants of walls and towers amid the Jalón River valley, it reflects the Reconquista's strategic fortifications.
