Montemayor del Río Castle
Montemayor del Río, Spain, Spain
Montemayor del Río Castle, also called Castillo de San Vicente, is a 14th-15th century fortress in the small village of Montemayor del Río, southern Salamanca province, Spain, overlooking the Cuerpo de Hombre River valley.
More palace than military stronghold, it features two enclosures with two surviving corner towers, crenellated walls, a gated entrance flanked by turrets, and internal two-story buildings around a courtyard including a preserved large chimney.
After 20 years of restoration, it reopened in 2009 as a protected cultural site housing the Centro de Interpretación del Medievo medieval museum, offering free public access to explore its simple yet evocative stone architecture.
