Built to monitor and counter the rebellious counts of Empúries amid territorial disputes, this unfinished fortress features robust 3-meter-thick granite walls rising 13 meters, cylindrical towers, and a strategic layout dominating the Empordà plain and Mediterranean coast.
Never fully completed due to resolved conflicts, it transitioned from military outpost to regional symbol, now accessible by a steep 45-minute hike along the GR-92 coastal path and protected as a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
