Moravský Beroun
Czech Republic, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Moravský Beroun is a historic town in the Olomouc District of the Czech Republic, first mentioned in 1339 and likely founded earlier.
It flourished as a center for iron ore mining and processing during the German colonization in the 16th century, but suffered heavy damage during the Thirty Years' War. By the late 18th century, the town revived through weaving and textile production. Moravský Beroun has a notable late Gothic town hall, originally built in the early 16th century and rebuilt multiple times.
The area is known for its mineral springs in the village of Ondrášov, with a mineral water bottling factory established in the early 20th century. The town was annexed by Nazi Germany in 1938 but was returned to Czechoslovakia after World War II.
It features historic landmarks such as the ruins of the 14th-century Moravský Beroun Castle, the Baroque Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross with fourteen Stations of the Cross, and a hunting lodge known for early use of iron in construction.
