Muralla de Tudela
Tudela, Spain, Spain
Muralla de Tudela comprises the remnants of 9th-century Muslim fortifications encircling the historic core of Tudela in Navarre, northern Spain, constructed initially by Amrus ibn Yusuf al-Muwalladi and later expanded by the Banu Qasi to encompass the growing medina up to the Queiles River.
Featuring ashlar stone construction typical of early Islamic defenses in Spain similar to those in Mérida, Seville, and Huesca the walls included multiple gates and utilized natural ravines like Mediavilla as moats before the Christian conquest in 1119.
Surviving fragments trace the casco antiguo's outline, including sections near Calle San Nicolás and the Morería quarter's later enclosure, preserving Tudela's layered Islamic-Christian heritage amid the Ebro River valley.
