Museo Evita is a museum in Buenos Aires’ elegant Palermo neighborhood dedicated to the life and legacy of Eva Perón (“Evita”), Argentina’s iconic first lady who served from 1946 until her death at age 33 in 1952.

Opened on July 26, 2002—the 50th anniversary of Evita’s death—the museum is housed in the Carabassa Building, a stunning 1923 Beaux-Arts mansion designed by architect Estanislao Pirovano that was purchased by Evita’s social foundation in 1948 and used as a temporary shelter for women and children arriving in Buenos Aires from the provinces.

The museum recreates how the house looked when it operated as a refuge, featuring interactive exhibits, historical photos, videos, books and posters that chronicle Evita’s journey from rural actress to powerful political figure, her relationship with President Juan Domingo Perón, and her groundbreaking social work championing women’s voting rights and workers’ rights.

A key attraction is Evita’s famous wardrobe, including her couture dresses, shoes, handbags, hats and blouses, alongside personal mementos like a photo of her playfully kicking a soccer ball in heels. The site also hosts the Eva Perón National Institute of Historical Research, a gift shop, a conference room and the popular Museo Evita Restaurante with a leafy patio for dining. Open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., it offers an intimate look at one of Argentina’s most influential women and provides a window into 1940s Argentine society and politics.
